@Hutch: Oh, maybe something like this gives Jim pause: "I believe it's a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards."

Jim H: Not sure where you substantiate the comment “…especially since he feels his religious views should be pushed onto us all.” Religion and/or spirituality are part of everyone to some degree and make up a portion of your core set of values. Whether you aspouse atheism or one of the major religions’ tenants, you live your life by those norms. As long as a politicians don’t legislate any particular form of religion, discussion and dialogue on the subject should be encouraged by all who support freedom of speech.

Right, those are exactly the political views that are making me uneasy. Perhaps “unease” would be better expressed as “shudder, then scream.”

He reminds me a little of Rod Grams, although more personable. Grams seemed sensible, loaded with common sense appeal. But listen to him for a while — or watch his voting record — and you realized that he was deeply, deeply frightening.

Yes, he’s certainly one of the Republican candidates who is better at communication. He comes across as fairly authentic. I dislike his policy proposals, though, especially since he feels his religious views should be pushed onto us all.
